The second prototype camera was deployed just offshore at the Island Bay Marine Education Centre in the Taputeranga Marine Reserve, Wellington, New Zealand.
We are awaiting approval to deploy a version 2 camera system, with improved image quality, faster data rate, and most importantly, error correction of data errors that can occur during transmission from underwater. A single bit error is enough to corrupt a image when compressed image formats, like jpeg, are used.
The camera uses the Seachannel⢠communications tether developed by Oceansense Ltd, a New Zealand company based in Porirua, on Wellington’s west coast.
Here areĀ some of example pictures taken with the automatic camera in the Taputeranga Marine Reserve.
